Act and Rule
Pattanakkad Block Panchayat is an important local government body belonging to Cherthala Taluk in Alappuzha District, Kerala. Covering an area of about 107.75 square kilometers, this block panchayat includes eight village panchayats namely Arur, Ezhupunna, Katakarapalli, Kuthiyathod, Kotamthuruth, Thuravur, Pattanakkad and Vayalar. It is bounded by Thaikattussery block in the east, Kanjikuzhi block and Cherthala municipality in the south, Palluruthi block in Ernakulam district in the north and the Arabian Sea in the west. The region has a unique landscape with beautiful Arabian Sea coastline and inland water bodies including Kaitapuzha Lagoon. Andkaranazhi, which is on the tourist map, falls under this block. Traditional coir industry, inland-sea fishing and agriculture are the main livelihoods of the people here.
